it honestly wouldnt surprise me if some book subscriptions put this in their boxes this summer! i get that the author may have thought ‘finestra’ might sound like a lovely title to readers who dont know the translation, but i just couldnt get over it.īut all in all, this story is a pretty good time. also, the fact that everyone literally calls the MC ‘window’ is so cringey. the world-building relies very much on surface level info-dumps, the pacing is inconsistent at times, and the side characters are pretty generic. but im not complaining!Īnd even though i did enjoy reading this, i couldnt help but notice little things throughout that make it obvious this is a debut novel. its a pretty main focus so, while i was enjoying the chemistry between dante and alessa, the other parts of the story tended to all away. due to the way this is structured, i found myself more invested in the romance aspect of the story. What a fun story! its a unique blend of italian influences, god-given magic and demon enemies, slow-burn romance, and strong main characters.

The figure with the sword and scepter is the Sovereign. This is the image found on the frontispiece of Leviathan. OF THE RIGHTS OF SOVERAIGNES BY INSTITUTION The Act Of Instituting A Common-wealth, WhatĪ Common-wealth is said to be Instituted, when a Multitude of men do Agree, and Covenant, Every One With Every One, that to whatsoever Man, or Assembly Of Men, shall be given by the major part, the Right to Present the Person of them all, (that is to say, to be their Representative ) every one, as well he that Voted For It, as he that Voted Against It, shall Authorise all the Actions and Judgements, of that Man, or Assembly of men, in the same manner, as if they were his own, to the end, to live peaceably amongst themselves, and be protected against other men. Hobbes, that is to say, is no fan of the idea of separated political powers.Įxcerpts from Leviathan ( source) CHAPTER XVIII. If it is to save human beings from their own nature, the sovereign must have nearly total power, must never be question and, Hobbes argues in the passage below, must possess “indivisible” rights. In Leviathan, Hobbes famously imagines human beings in a state of nature where life is “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.” People will, Hobbes argues, quickly flee such a terrible condition, creating for their own protection a mighty Sovereign. The long and bloody struggle between the parliament and crown motivated and shaped his political ideas. Thomas Hobbes lived through the English Civil War. I’m so excited to welcome you back into the Archer clan for a festive family reunion. That’s right! Coming this Christmas, there will be an entirely new Archer brothers tale, this time told from Jim and Cassandra Archer’s point of view. However, none of the Archer stories have been told from Jim and Cassie’s point of view. What about Jim? Well, those of you who have read Short-Straw Bride know that Jim finds his true love during the same time period as Travis. Now you might notice in the collage above that only 3 brothers are mentioned by name – Travis, Crockett, and Neill. These four reclusive brothers who raised themselves on the wild Texas frontier are not only named after heroes from the Alamo, but they are each rather heroic in their own right. Out of all the books I’ve written, one particular family has proven to be most popular with my readers. I don’t think it’ll be for everyone’s taste. This is definitely one of those “it’s me, not you” type of books. It’s a relatively quick full-length novel that you can easily read in one sitting. This duet contains sensitive subject matters that may be offensive or triggering for some readers, such as domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual assault, violence and mature themes. I loved the first book, and whilst this one didn’t live up to my expectations, I still recommend this duet as whole to fellow dark romance readers and fans of the Midnight Dynasty world.īut in saying that, if you’re not a fan, or you’re not familiar with what you can expect from a reverse harem romance, then in my opinion you may want to give this one a miss. I was not prepared for the change of pacing or scenery, and although there were certain parts I enjoyed, I’ll admit I was still clutching my metaphorical pearls for a lot of this book too! □□ If Triple Threat was a kiddie pool for reverse harem, then Death Wish was a doggy-paddle through the deep end. The conclusion to the Deception Duet was nothing short of drama, eroticism, and fresh beginnings. I’m the daughter of a controlling and cruel billionaire, so I understand about power. That hope has turned into sharp, bright fear. And maybe, in brief stolen moments, I dreamed of a happy ending for myself with a brown-eyed man. All I wanted is for my little sister Della to be safe and happy. First influenza season after the 2009 pandemic influenza: report of the first 300 ICU admissions in Spain From having to pitch his own mother on being an early investor, to the motel conference room that served as a first office, to server crashes on launch day, to the now-infamous meeting when Netflix brass pitched Blockbuster to acquire them, Marc Randolph's transformational journey exemplifies how anyone with grit, gut instincts, and determination can change the world-even with an idea that many think will never work. Now with over 150 million subscribers, Netflix's triumph feels inevitable, but the twenty first century's most disruptive start up began with few believers and calamity at every turn. But Hastings was intrigued, and the pair-with Hastings as the primary investor and Randolph as the CEO-founded a company. It was a simple thought-leveraging the internet to rent movies-and was just one of many more and far worse proposals, like personalized baseball bats and a shampoo delivery service, that Randolph would pitch to his business partner, Reed Hastings, on their commute to work each morning. Indeed, these were the widely accepted laws of the land in 1997, when Marc Randolph had an idea. Late fees were ubiquitous, video-streaming unheard was of, and widespread DVD adoption seemed about as imminent as flying cars. Once upon a time, brick-and-mortar video stores were king. In the tradition of Phil Knight's Shoe Dog comes the incredible untold story of how Netflix went from concept to company-all revealed by co-founder and first CEO Marc Randolph. I remember that he noticed me examining the monthly night-sky chart pinned to the classroom door, and thereafter would print off an extra copy specially and wordlessly hand it to me if he saw me in the corridor (never in class, not wishing to embarrass me*) Our first lessons tried to tell us what the subject was all about, and a poetic but confusing article telling me that it was about, among other things, not being able to push a blade of grass into the trunk of an oak tree demonstrated clearly that some things are better learned by seeing and doing than by reading. Fortunately, my elderly teacher had an infectious affection for his subject. When I started secondary school I was mildly apprehensive about 'physics', an unfamiliar word that elicited an actual shudder from my mother. In contrast, solitary trees, like street kids, have a tough time of it and in most cases die much earlier than those in a group.ĭrawing on groundbreaking new discoveries, Wohlleben presents the science behind the secret and previously unknown life of trees and their communication abilities he describes how these discoveries have informed his own practices in the forest around him. As a result of such interactions, trees in a family or community are protected and can live to be very old. Much like human families, tree parents live together with their children, communicate with them, and support them as they grow, sharing nutrients with those who are sick or struggling and creating an ecosystem that mitigates the impact of extremes of heat and cold for the whole group. In The Hidden Life of Trees Peter Wohlleben shares his deep love of woods and forests and explains the amazing processes of life, death, and regeneration he has observed in the woodland and the amazing scientific processes behind the wonders of which we are blissfully unaware. Vespain is part of a race of mystical beings that used Vellichor to create a portal from their world to this one in order to save themselves. This is going to be difficult because Kal knows the worth of Vellichor as it is an ancient sword given to Gabe by the Archon, Vespain. They also need to reclaim Gabe’s legendary sword, Vellichor back from their old booker, Kal as Gabe sold it to pay his debts. In order to get the band back together they need to find and convince Matrick, Moog and Ganelon to come with them but Ganelon might be harbouring a grudge towards the band. There’s Chloe’s opinionated, strong-willed mom, Madeline, a charmingly imperfect Everywoman. Was it an accident or murder? Who is the victim? And who, if anyone, is the murderer? Backtrack six months as the cast of potential victims and perps meet at kindergarten orientation and begin alliances and rivalries within the framework of domestic comedy-drama. To make matters worse, out on the balcony where a smaller group of parents have gathered, someone falls over the railing and dies.
